A Force for Freedom and Unity

Their era gave them muskets and bayonets. Their experience and trials gave them courage and conviction. In many cases, they had precious little else.

They gave us far more.

A Force for Freedom and Unity honors the men and women whose courage, leadership, sacrifice, and determination helped preserve a fractured nation and push America closer to the promise of freedom on which it was founded.

Their real stories don't need embellishment. They faced extraordinary circumstances with the tools available to them and accomplished things worthy of remembrance generations later.

We just added a little firepower to get your attention.

This collection takes real heroes of the Civil War and Emancipation era and gives them a deliberately impossible technological upgrade—energy weapons, futuristic hardware, and equipment their contemporaries definitely forgot to issue them.

The technology is fiction. Their courage, accomplishments, and contributions are not.

Behind every design is a real person with a real story worth knowing. Some are names nearly every American recognizes. Others deserve to be remembered far more widely than they are today. We hope these designs make you smile, make you curious, and maybe send you looking for the story behind the person wearing the impossible gear.

Because more than a century and a half later, we haven't forgotten them.

And we don't intend to.
